Så dro dere over Jordan og kom til Jeriko. I Jeriko møtte dere motstand av mennene der. Også amorittene, perisittene, kanaaneerne, hetittene, girgasittene, hevittene og jebusittene ville kjempe mot dere, men Jeg lot dere vinne over dem alle. Jeg sendte veps foran dere som drev krigerne bort, og det gjaldt også de to amorittkongene– dere brukte altså ikke våpen for å drive dem på flukt. Jeg har gitt dere et land som dere ikke har hatt strev med, og byer dere ikke selv har bygd. Nå bor dere i dem, der dere spiser av vingårder og olivenlunder som dere ikke plantet.’
