Mens Jesus var på vei videre til Jerusalem, gikk han langs grensen mellom Samaria og Galilea. Han kom inn i en landsby, og der ble Han møtt av ti menn som led av en alvorlig og smittsom hudsykdom som kalles spedalskhet. De sto langt unna og ropte: «Jesus, Mester, vis medlidenhet med oss!» Da Jesus hørte dem, svarte Han: «Gå til prestene og vis dere for dem!» De ti spedalske gjorde som Jesus sa, og mens de var på vei dit, ble de helbredet. Én av dem som så at han var blitt helbredet, gikk rett tilbake til Jesus mens han lovpriste Gud høylytt. Han bøyde seg ydmykt på kne foran føttene til Jesus og takket Ham for at Han hadde helbredet ham fra den alvorlige sykdommen. Denne mannen var fra Samaria, han var altså ikke jøde.
