Ndebele Bible - 2010
What Does This Mean?
In this verse, God is speaking through the prophet Ezekiel, telling him to use physical actions like smiting his hand and stamping his foot to express his dismay at the evil deeds of the Israelites. God is warning that because of these sins, the people will suffer from war, famine, and disease.
Explained for Children
Imagine if you were really upset about something your friends did, and you wanted to show how upset you were by hitting your hand on the table and stomping your foot. That's what God is asking Ezekiel to do because He is sad about the bad things the Israelites are doing. He's telling Ezekiel that because of these bad things, the Israelites will face very hard times.
Historical Background
Ezekiel, a prophet, wrote this during the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BCE. The audience was the Israelites who were exiled from their homeland and were facing severe hardships. The cultural setting was one of turmoil and suffering, with many people questioning God's presence and actions.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, this verse can be applied when a community is facing severe challenges due to its own choices. For example, if a neighborhood is struggling with crime because of a lack of community involvement and moral standards, this verse serves as a reminder of the consequences of neglecting moral and spiritual responsibilities.
