«Homem, que valor tem a madeira da videira, comparada com a das árvores dos bosques?

Serve-te para alguma coisa? Consegues mesmo fazer com ela um cabide para pendurar qualquer coisa?

Na realidade só serve para se deitar no fogo. As pontas ardem logo e a cepa fica a arder em brasa. Serve-te para alguma coisa?

Se já não servia para nada mesmo antes de arder! Depois de ser queimada pelo fogo e carbonizada, ainda serve para menos!

Eis, pois, o que o Senhor tem para dizer: “Assim como a lenha da videira brava é queimada no fogo, assim farei também com os habitantes de Jerusalém,

para os castigar. Escaparam do fogo, mas será o fogo que os há de consumir. Quando os castigar, ficareis a saber que eu sou o Senhor.

Eles foram-me infiéis e por isso o seu país ficará deserto. Palavra do Senhor!”»
