«Filho de homem, que vale a lenha da videira mais do que qualquer outra cortada nas árvores da floresta?

Porventura tira-se dela madeira para fazer algum objecto? Tira-se dela um cabide para pendurar alguma coisa?

Eis que se lança no fogo, a fim de ser consumida. O fogo consome as duas extremidades; e a parte central arde; servirá para qualquer obra?

Eis que, quando estava intacta, não servia para nada; depois de o fogo a ter consumido e queimado, poder-se-á fazer dela qualquer coisa?

É por isso que assim fala o Senhor Deus, Como lenha da videira entre as árvores da floresta, lançada ao fogo para ser consumida, assim lançarei os habitantes de Jerusalém.

Dirigirei o meu rosto contra eles; fugiram ao fogo, mas o fogo os devorará. Então sabereis que Eu sou o Senhor, ao voltar a minha face contra eles.

Do país de Israel farei um deserto; porque eles foram infiéis» – oráculo do Senhor Deus.
