Depois, Eliú retomou a palavra e disse:

«Porventura consideras justo dizer que tens razão contra Deus

já que dizes: ‘De que me serve e que vantagens tenho em não ter pecado?’

Pois eu vou dar-te a resposta, a ti e aos teus amigos.
5
Contempla o céu e vê; considera as nuvens: são mais altas do que tu!
6
Se pecas, que mal lhe causas? Se multiplicas os teus pecados, que mal lhe fazes?
7
Se és justo, que lhe ofereces ou que recebe Ele da tua mão?
8
Só a um homem como tu afecta a tua maldade, e só a um mortal, a tua justiça.
9
Geme-se sob o peso da opressão, e clama-se sob a mão dos poderosos.
10
Mas ninguém diz: ‘Onde está Deus que me criou, e que inspira cânticos de louvor, na noite,
11
e nos instrui mais que os animais selvagens, e nos faz mais sábios que as aves do céu?’
12
Clama-se, mas Ele não responde, por causa do orgulho dos maus.
13
Deus não ouve os discursos frívolos, o Todo-Poderoso não os atende.
14
Muito menos, quando dizes que Ele não olha por ti. A tua causa está diante dele. Espera nele.
15
Ao dizer que a sua cólera não castiga, e que Ele ignora o pecado,
16
Job abriu a boca em palavras ociosas, e alarga-se em divagações de ignorante.»
