No ano em que Sargom, rei da Assíria, enviou o comandante supremo do seu exército contra Asdode, cidade da Filisteia, e a tomou,

o Senhor disse a Isaías, o filho de Amós, que se despisse, que tirasse os sapatos e andasse assim nu e descalço. Isaías fez como lhe foi ordenado.

Então o Senhor disse: “O meu servo Isaías, que tem andado despido e descalço nestes últimos três anos, é uma imagem das terríveis calamidades que vou enviar ao Egito e a Cuche.

Porque o rei da Assíria virá levar os egípcios e os cuchitas como prisioneiros, fazendo-os andar nus e descalços, tanto jovens como velhos; andarão com as nádegas à mostra, para vergonha do Egito.

Então ficarão aflitos os filisteus que contavam com o poder de Cuche, que descansavam no seu glorioso aliado, o Egito!

E dirão nessa altura: ‘Se tal pode acontecer até ao Egito, qual não será a nossa sorte!’ ”
