Era o ano em que o general enviado por Sargão, rei da Assíria, atacou e conquistou Asdode.

Nessa ocasião o SENHOR disse por meio de Isaías, filho de Amoz: — Dispa-se da sua roupa de saco e das suas sandálias. E Isaías fez isso e andava praticamente nu e descalço.

O SENHOR depois disse: — O meu servo Isaías andou durante três anos nu e descalço como um sinal e aviso do que vai acontecer com o Egito e a Etiópia.

Assim será o Egito envergonhado: o rei da Assíria levará nus e descalços os prisioneiros egípcios e os exilados etíopes, jovens e velhos, mostrando as suas nádegas.

Então aqueles que confiavam na Etiópia e se orgulhavam do Egito terão medo e ficarão envergonhados.

Naquele dia, o povo que vive ao lado do mar dirá: “Vejam o que aconteceu com as nações em quem nós confiávamos e a quem fomos pedir proteção contra o rei da Assíria! E agora, como é que iremos escapar?”
