Cuvântul Domnului care a fost către Ieremía, profetul, înainte ca Faraón să lovească Gáza:

„Așa vorbește Domnul: «Iată, niște ape se ridică din nord și devin ca un râu care se revarsă, inundă țara și acoperă cetatea și pe cei care locuiesc în ea. Oamenii vor striga și toți locuitorii țării vor geme

de tropăitul copitelor [cailor] celor puternici ai lui, de cutremuratul carelor sale, de zarva roților lui. Părinții nu se vor întoarce către fii din cauza slăbiciunii mâinilor lor.

Pentru că vine ziua devastării tuturor filisténilor și a nimicirii Tírului și Sidónului. Fiecare supraviețuitor strigă după ajutor, căci Domnul îi distruge pe filisténi, restul insulei Caftór.

Vine pleșuvie peste Gáza, Așchelón este redus la tăcere cu restul văilor sale. Până când vă veți face tăieturi? »”.

Vai, sabie a Domnului, până când nu te vei potoli? Intră în teacă, oprește-te și stai liniștită!

Dar cum să te potolești când Domnul i-a poruncit împotriva [cetății] Așchelón și împotriva țărmului mării: într-acolo să se îndrepte!
