În anul când a venit Tartan la Asdod, trimis de Sargon, împăratul Asiriei, să bată Asdodul, şi l-a luat,

în vremea aceea Domnul a vorbit lui Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, şi i-a zis: "Du-te, dezleagă-ţi sacul de pe coapse şi scoate-ţi încălţămintea din picioare!" El a făcut aşa, a umblat gol şi desculţ.

Şi Domnul a zis: "După cum robul Meu Isaia umblă gol şi desculţ trei ani de zile, ca semn şi înştiinţare pentru Egipt şi pentru Etiopia,

tot aşa şi împăratul Asiriei va lua din Egipt şi din Etiopia prinşi de război şi surghiuniţi, tineri şi bătrâni, goi şi desculţi şi cu spinarea descoperită, spre ruşinea Egiptului.
5
Atunci se vor îngrozi şi se vor ruşina cei ce îşi puseseră încrederea în Etiopia şi se făleau cu Egiptul.
6
Şi locuitorii de pe ţărmul acesta vor zice în ziua aceea: "Iată ce a ajuns încrederea noastră pe care ne bizuiserăm ca să fim ajutaţi şi să fim izbăviţi de împăratul Asiriei! Cum vom scăpa acum?"
