(O cântare de jale a lui David. Cântată Domnului din pricina cuvintelor beniamitului Cuş.) Doamne Dumnezeule, în Tine îmi caut scăparea! Scapă-mă de toţi prigonitorii mei şi izbăveşte-mă,
2
ca să nu mă sfâşie ca un leu care înghite, fără să sară cineva în ajutor.
3
Doamne Dumnezeule, dacă am făcut un astfel de rău, dacă este fărădelege pe mâinile mele,
4
dacă am răsplătit cu rău pe cel ce trăia în pace cu mine, şi n-am izbăvit pe cel ce mă asuprea fără temei,
5
atunci: să mă urmărească vrăjmaşul şi să m-ajungă, să-mi calce viaţa la pământ, şi slava mea în pulbere să mi-o arunce! (Oprire)
6
Scoală-Te, Doamne, cu mânia Ta! Scoală-Te împotriva urgiei potrivnicilor mei, trezeşte-Te ca să-mi ajuţi şi rânduieşte o judecată!
7
Să Te înconjoare adunarea popoarelor, şi şezi mai sus decât ea, la înălţime!
8
Domnul judecă popoarele: fă-mi dreptate, Doamne, după neprihănirea şi nevinovăţia mea!
9
Ah! pune odată capăt răutăţii celor răi şi întăreşte pe cel neprihănit, Tu, care cercetezi inimile şi rinichii, Dumnezeule drept!
10
Scutul meu este în Dumnezeu, care mântuieşte pe cei cu inima curată.
11
Dumnezeu este un judecător drept, un Dumnezeu care Se mânie în orice vreme.
12
Dacă cel rău nu se întoarce la Dumnezeu, Dumnezeu Îşi ascute sabia, Îşi încordează arcul şi-l ocheşte,
13
îndreaptă asupra lui săgeţi omorâtoare şi-i aruncă săgeţi arzătoare!
14
Iată că cel rău pregăteşte răul, zămisleşte fărădelegea şi naşte înşelăciunea:
15
face o groapă, o sapă, şi tot el cade în groapa pe care a făcut-o.
16
Fărădelegea pe care a urzit-o se întoarce asupra capului lui, şi silnicia pe care a făcut-o se coboară înapoi pe ţeasta capului lui.
17
Eu voi lăuda pe Domnul pentru dreptatea Lui şi voi cânta Numele Domnului, Numele Celui Preaînalt.
