希勒迦 的儿子 耶利米 是 便雅悯 境内 亚拿突 城的一位祭司，以下是他的话。

亚们 的儿子 犹大 王 约西亚 执政第十三年，耶和华对 耶利米 说话。

从 约西亚 的儿子 犹大 王 约雅敬 开始执政，一直到 约西亚 的儿子 西底迦 做 犹大 王第十一年五月 耶路撒冷 的居民被掳之日，耶和华常常对 耶利米 说话。

耶和华对我说：

“我还没有使你在母腹中成形，就认识你； 你还未出生，我已使你圣洁， 立你做万国的先知。”
6
我回答说：“唉，主耶和华啊，我太年轻，不懂得怎样说话。”
7
耶和华却说： “不要说你太年轻， 我派你去谁那里， 你就去谁那里； 我吩咐你说什么， 你就说什么。
8
不要怕他们， 因为我与你同在， 我必拯救你。 这是耶和华说的。”
9
然后，耶和华伸手摸我的口，对我说：“看啊，我已把我的话放在你口中。
10
今日，我派你到列邦列国去拔掉、拆除、毁灭、推翻、建造和栽植。”
11
耶和华又对我说：“ 耶利米 ，你看见什么？”我说：“我看见一根杏树枝。”
12
耶和华说：“你看的不错。我必实现我说过的话。”
13
耶和华又对我说：“你看见什么？”我回答说：“我看见一锅煮沸的水，从北方倾倒下来。”
14
耶和华说：“必有灾祸要从北方降临到这地方的一切居民。
15
我要召来北方各国之民，他们要在 耶路撒冷 的城门口设宝座，攻打 耶路撒冷 周围的城墙和 犹大 各城邑。这是耶和华说的。
16
我要审判我的子民，因为他们犯罪作恶，背弃我，给其他神明烧香，又祭拜自己制造的神像。
17
现在，你要做好准备，去把我吩咐你的话都告诉他们。不要惧怕他们，不然我将使你在他们面前充满恐惧。
18
看啊，今天我已使你成为坚城、铁柱、铜墙，来对抗整个 犹大 ，对抗 犹大 的君王、首领、祭司和众民。
19
他们必攻击你，但绝不能胜过你，因为我与你同在，我必拯救你。这是耶和华说的。”
