亚比雅死后葬在大卫城的王室墓里。他的儿子亚撒继位为王。亚撒在位期间，国家享了十年太平。

亚撒按照主的意志力行善事，行为正直。

他拆掉了异族的祭坛和邱坛，打碎了石像，砍倒了亚舍拉柱像 。

他命令犹大人寻求主－他们祖先的上帝，谨守他的律法和诫命。

他废除了犹大各城中的邱坛和香坛。他在位期间，国家平安无事。

他加固了犹大各城的城防，国家多年无战事，因为主把太平赐给了他。

他对犹大人说∶“我们要把这些城修好，要筑起城墙，要修造城楼、城门和门栓。这土地依然是属于我们的，因为我们一直寻求主；我们寻求他，他就赐给我们四境太平。”他们顺利地修好了各个城池。
8
亚撒王的军队包括三十万装备大盾牌和枪矛的犹大人和二十八万装备小盾牌和弓箭的便雅悯人。他们都是英勇的战士。
9
古实王谢拉率大军一百万、战车三百辆，进兵玛利沙，向犹大人挑战。
10
亚撒率军迎战。双方在玛利沙附近的洗法谷摆下阵势。
11
亚撒向主－他的上帝祷告∶“主啊，只有你能扶助弱小，对抗强敌。主啊，求你帮助我们，因为我们信靠你；我们奉你的名来出战这强大的敌军，你是我们的上帝，不要让世间的人胜过你。”
12
主使古实人败在亚撒和犹大人面前；古实人败退了。
13
亚撒率军追击他们，一直追杀到基拉耳。无数古实人丧身疆场；他们被主和主的军队彻底粉碎。犹大人缴获了大量的战利品。
14
他们毁灭了基拉耳周围所有的村庄，把它们劫掠一空，因为这些富饶村庄里的人们都被主吓坏了。
15
他们又攻击牧人的营地，抢走了大群的绵羊、山羊和骆驼。然后，犹大人返回了耶路撒冷。
