'n Woord van die profeet Jeremia aan Baruk seun van Nerija, toe Baruk opgeteken het wat Jeremia vir hom gedikteer het. Dit was in die vierde regeringsjaar van koning Jojakim van Juda, seun van Josia.

So sê die Here die God van Israel oor jou, Baruk:

Jy sê dit is klaar met jou, die Here het nog meer lyding by jou smart gevoeg, jy is al uitgeput van kla, jy kry nie rus nie?

Die Here sê ek moet vir jou sê: So sê die Here: Wat Ek gebou het, slaan Ek plat; wat Ek geplant het, ruk Ek uit. Dit het gebeur met 'n hele land.

En jy soek roem vir jouself? Moet dit nie soek nie! Ek gaan 'n ramp oor alle mense bring, sê die Here. Tog sal Ek jou jou lewe laat behou waar jy ook gaan, al sal jy net met jou lewe daarvan afkom.
