En ce jour-là, le Seigneur fera rendre des comptes, avec son épée acérée, grande et puissante, à Léviathan, le serpent fuyard, à Léviathan, le serpent tortueux, et il tuera le dragon qui est dans la mer.

En ce jour-là, entonnez un chœur pour la vigne au vin capiteux:

moi, le Seigneur (YHWH), j'en suis le gardien, je l'arrose à chaque instant; de peur qu'on ne l'attaque, nuit et jour je la garde.

Il n'y a pas en moi de colère. Ah! si je pouvais combattre des ronces et des épines! Je marcherais sur elles, je les brûlerais toutes ensemble,

à moins qu'on ne me prenne pour refuge, qu'on ne fasse la paix avec moi, qu'on ne fasse avec moi la paix!

Dans l'avenir, que Jacob prenne racine: Israël poussera des bourgeons et des fleurs et remplira le monde de ses produits.

L'a-t-il frappé comme il a frappé ceux qui le frappaient? L'a-t-il tué comme il a tué ceux qu'il tue?

C'est en la poussant, en la renvoyant, que tu as mené son procès: il les a chassés par son souffle violent, un jour de vent d'est.

C'est ainsi que la faute de Jacob est expiée, et voici la conséquence du pardon de son péché: il rend toutes les pierres des autels pareilles à des pierres de chaux réduites en poussière; les poteaux cultuels (les ashéras) et les brasiers à encens ne se relèveront plus.

Car la ville forte est solitaire, c'est un domaine délaissé et abandonné comme le désert; le taurillon vient y paître, il s'y couche et il en achève les branchages.

Quand les rameaux se dessèchent, on les brise; des femmes viennent y mettre le feu. Car ce n'est pas un peuple intelligent: aussi celui qui le fait n'a pas compassion de lui, celui qui le façonne ne lui fait pas grâce.

En ce jour-là, le Seigneur secouera les arbres, depuis le cours du Fleuve jusqu'à l'oued d'Egypte; et vous serez ramassés un par un, Israélites!
13
En ce jour-là, on sonnera d'une grande trompe; alors viendront ceux qui étaient perdus en Assyrie, ceux qui étaient dispersés en Egypte; ils se prosterneront devant le Seigneur à la montagne sacrée, à Jérusalem.
