(આસાફનું માસ્કીલ) હે ઈશ્વર, તમે અમને સદાને માટે કેમ તજી દીધા છે? તમારા ચરાણનાં ઘેટાં વિરુદ્ધ તમારો ક્રોધાગ્નિ કેમ ભભૂકી ઊઠયો છે?

તમારા લોકનો સમુદાય જેને તમે પ્રાચીનકાળથી પોતાનો બનાવ્યો તેનું સ્મરણ કરો; તમારા વારસાનું કુળ જેને તમે મુક્ત કર્યું તેને સંભારો; સિયોન પર્વત જ્યાં તમે વાસ કર્યો છે તેને યાદ કરો.

અમારા શત્રુઓએ પવિત્ર મંદિરની એકેએક વસ્તુનો નાશ કર્યો છે; પૂરેપૂરા ખંડિયેર બનેલાં આ સ્થાનો તરફ તમારાં પગલાં વાળો,

તમારા સભાસ્થાનમાં વૈરીઓએ વિજયની ગર્જનાઓ કરી છે; તેમણે ત્યાં પોતાની વિજયપતાકાઓ ઊભી કરી છે.

તેઓ કુહાડાથી વનનાં વૃક્ષો કાપનારા કઠિયારા જેવા જણાયા હતા.

તેમણે કુહાડીઓ અને ફરસીઓથી લાકડાની સર્વ નકશીદાર કમાનો તોડી પાડી.
7
તેમણે તમારા મંદિરને આગ લગાડીને જમીનદોસ્ત કર્યું, અને તમારા નામના નિવાસસ્થાનને અભડાવ્યું.

તેમણે પોતાના મનમાં વિચાર્યું, “અમે તેમનું નામનિશાન મિટાવી દઈશું.” તેમણે દેશનાં સર્વ સભાસ્થાનો સળગાવી દીધાં.
9
અમે કોઈ પવિત્ર પ્રતીકો જોતા નથી. ઈશ્વરનો કોઈ સંદેશવાહક રહ્યો નથી, અને આ બધું ક્યાં સુધી ચાલશે તે કહેનાર કોઈ દષ્ટા નથી
10
હે ઈશ્વર, વેરીઓ ક્યાં સુધી તમારો ઉપહાસ કરશે? શું તેઓ સદા તમારા નામની નિંદા કરશે?
11
શા માટે તમે તમારો હાથ પાછો રાખો છો? શા માટે તમારો જમણો ભૂજ ખોળામાં સંતાડો છો?
12
પરંતુ હે ઈશ્વર, તમે તો પ્રાચીનકાળથી અમારા રાજા છો; તમે અમારે માટે દેશમાં ઘણા વિજયો મેળવ્યા છે.
13
તમે જ તમારા મહાસામર્થ્યથી સમુદ્રના ભાગ પાડી દીધા અને સમુદ્રમાંના જળ-રાક્ષસોનાં માથાંના ચૂરેચૂરા કરી દીધા.
14
તમે જ લેવિયાથાન નામના જળ-રાક્ષસના માથાં કચડી નાખ્યાં અને તેનું શરીર વનપશુઓને આહાર માટે આપી દીધું.
15
તમે જ ખડકોને ફોડીને ઝરણાં અને વહેળા વહાવ્યા. તમે જ બારેમાસ વહેનારી નદીઓને સૂકવી નાખી.
16
દિવસ તમારો છે અને રાત્રિ પણ તમારી છે; તમે જ સૂર્યને અને જ્યોતિઓને તેમને સ્થાને ગોઠવ્યાં છે.
17
તમે જ પૃથ્વીની સર્વ સીમાઓ સ્થાપી છે; તમે જ ઉનાળો અને શિયાળો ઠરાવ્યા છે.
18
હે પ્રભુ, શત્રુઓ તમારી નિંદા કરે છે, અને મૂર્ખ લોકો તમારા નામને ધૂત્કારે છે તે તમે યાદ કરો.
19
કબૂતર જેવા તમારા ભોળા લોકને હિંસક શત્રુઓના હાથમાં સોંપશો નહિ. તમારા લાચાર લોકને સદા વીસરી જશો નહિ.
20
અમારી સાથે કરેલા તમારા કરારને સંભારો; દેશનો દરેક અંધારિયો વિસ્તાર હિંસક લોકોથી ભરપૂર છે.
21
જુલમપીડિતોને તમે કચડાવા દેશો નહિ; ગરીબો અને નિરાધારો તમારા નામની સ્તુતિ કરે એવું થવા દો.
22
હે ઈશ્વર, ઊઠો, તમારા દાવાનું સમર્થન કરો; મૂર્ખ લોકો સતત તમારી નિંદા કરે છે તે યાદ કરો.
23
તમારા વૈરીઓના શોરબકોરને તથા તમારા વિરોધીઓના સતત ચાલતા ઘોંઘાટને વીસરી જશો નહિ.
