Il Signore mi rivolse la parola:

"Ezechiele, quanto vale il legno della vite in confronto al legno degli alberi della foresta?

Lo si può forse usare per fare un oggetto? Un piolo per appendere un utensile?

Lo si butta nel fuoco: questo ne divora le estremità mentre il centro si infiamma. Serve dunque a qualcosa?

Se non era utile, quando era intatto, tanto meno lo sarà quando il fuoco l' avrà divorato e bruciato.

"Io, il loro Dio, il Signore, dichiaro: Come si butta nel fuoco il legno della vite, ma non quello degli alberi della foresta, così io tratterò gli abitanti di Gerusalemme.

Agirò contro di loro: sono sfuggiti una volta al fuoco, ma ora il fuoco li finirà! Allora riconoscerete che io sono il Signore perché sono intervenuto contro di loro.

Trasformerò la loro terra in un deserto, perché sono stati infedeli. Questa è la parola di Dio il Signore".
