Se, en håndfull dager har du gitt meg, og mitt livsløp er som ingenting for Deg. Sannelig, hvert menneske, hvor støtt det enn står, er bare som et pust.

Sannelig, hver mann går omkring som en skygge. Sannelig, de har det travelt til ingen nytte. Han hoper sammen så mangt, men vet ikke hvem som skal ta vare på det.

Og nå, Herre, hva venter jeg på? Min forventning, den står til Deg.

Fri meg fra alle mine overtredelser! Gjør meg ikke til spott for dåren!

Hør min bønn, Herre, og legg øret til mitt rop! Vær ikke taus overfor mine tårer! For jeg er jo gjest hos Deg, en fremmed på reise, slik alle mine fedre var.

Ta Ditt blikk bort fra meg, så jeg kan få gleden tilbake før jeg går bort og ikke er her mer.
