«Isto te diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel, para ti, Baruc:

Tu exclamas: ‘Desgraçado de mim! Pois o Senhor não faz mais que acrescentar dor à minha dor. Estou cansado de gemer e não encontro repouso!’

Eis o que lhe dirás: ‘Assim fala o Senhor, O que Eu tinha construído, Eu o destruo e o que tinha plantado, Eu o arranco; e isto em toda a terra’.

E tu, pedes para ti grandes favores! Não os peças, porque vou enviar desgraças sobre todas as criaturas – oráculo do Senhor. Mas dar-te-ei a vida, como um despojo, em qualquer lugar para onde fores.»
