Esta é a mensagem que o profeta Jeremias deu a Baruque, filho de Nerias, no quarto ano do reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá. Baruque escrevia num rolo enquanto Jeremias ditava seguinte mensagem:

— Eu, o SENHOR, Deus de Israel, tenho ouvido você, Baruque.

Você disse: “Pobre de mim! Além de dor, o SENHOR me enviou angústia. Estou exausto de tanto gemer e não encontro descanso”.

Eu, o SENHOR, afirmo que destruirei o que construí e arrancarei o que plantei: acabarei com este país.

Está procurando grandes coisas para você? Deixe de procurar grandes coisas para você porque eu enviarei a destruição para todo ser humano. Mas eu, o SENHOR, prometo que irei protegê-lo da morte onde quer que você for.
