Esta é a mensagem do SENHOR ao profeta Jeremias sobre os filisteus, antes de que o faraó atacara Gaza.

O SENHOR diz: “Sobem as águas do norte, como um rio que está transbordando e cubrindo o país e tudo o que há nele, a cidade e os seus habitantes. O povo gritará, e todo habitante do país gemerá.

Eles ouvirão o galope dos cavalos, o estrondo dos carros de combate e o barulho das rodas. Os pais fugirão enfraquecidos, sem nem sequer voltar para buscar os seus filhos,

porque chegou o dia de destruir todos os filisteus. Chegou o momento de destruir todos os que ajudam Tiro e Sidom. O SENHOR destruirá os filisteus e o resto da ilha de Caftor.
5
O povo de Gaza rapou a cabeça. O povo de Ascalom permanece mudo. Ó descendentes dos Anakim, até quando farão cortes nas suas próprias carnes?”

Jeremias diz: “Filisteus, vocês dizem: ‘Espada do SENHOR! Quando descansará? Volte para o seu lugar, fique calma e quieta’.
7
Mas como a espada do Senhor descansará se o SENHOR ordenou que ela atacasse? Ela tem a missão de atacar Ascalom e a costa do mar”.
