(O cîntare a lui Asaf.) Pentruce, Dumnezeule, ne lepezi pentru totdeauna? Pentruce Te mînii pe turma păşunii Tale?

Adu-Ţi aminte de poporul Tău, pe care l-ai cîştigat odinioară, pe care l-ai răscumpărat ca seminţie a moştenirii Tale! Adu-Ţi aminte de muntele Sionului, unde Îţi aveai locuinţa;
3
îndreaptă-Ţi paşii spre aceste locuri pustiite fără curmare! Vrăjmaşul a pustiit totul în locaşul Tău cel sfînt.
4
Protivnicii Tăi au mugit în mijlocul Templului Tău; şi-au pus semnele lor drept semne.

Parcă erau nişte oameni, cari ridică toporul într'o pădure deasă:

în curînd au sfărîmat toate podoabele săpate, cu lovituri de securi şi ciocane.
7
Au pus foc sfîntului Tău locaş; au dărîmat şi au pîngărit locuinţa Numelui Tău.
8
Ei ziceau în inima lor: ’Să- i prăpădim pe toţi!’ Au ars toate locurile sfinte din ţară.
9
Semnele noastre nu le mai vedem; nu mai este niciun prooroc, şi nu mai este nimeni printre noi, care să ştie pînă cînd...
10
Pînă cînd, Dumnezeule, va batjocori asupritorul, şi va nesocoti vrăjmaşul fără curmare Numele Tău?
11
Pentruce Îţi tragi înapoi mîna şi dreapta Ta? Scoate- o din sîn şi nimiceşte- i!
12
Totuş, Dumnezeu este Împăratul meu, care din vremuri străvechi dă izbăviri în mijlocul acestei ţări.
13
Tu ai despărţit marea cu puterea Ta, ai sfărîmat capetele balaurilor din ape;
14
ai zdrobit capul Leviatanului, l-ai dat să- l mănince fiarele din pustie.
15
Ai făcut să ţîşnească izvoare în pîraie, ai uscat rîuri, cari nu seacă.
16
A Ta este ziua, a Ta este şi noaptea; Tu ai aşezat lumina şi soarele.
17
Tu ai statornicit toate hotarele pămîntului, Tu ai rînduit vara şi iarna.
18
Adu-Ţi aminte, Doamne, că vrăjmaşul Te batjocoreşte, şi un popor nechibzuit huleşte Numele Tău!
19
Nu lăsa pradă fiarelor sufletul turturelei Tale, şi nu uita pe vecie viaţa nenorociţilor Tăi!
20
Ai în vedere legămîntul! Căci locurile dosnice din ţară sînt pline de bîrloage de tîlhari.
21
Să nu se întoarcă ruşinat cel apăsat, ci nenorocitul şi săracul să laude Numele Tău!
22
Scoală-te, Dumnezeule, apără-Ţi pricina! Adu-Ţi aminte de ocările, pe cari Ţi le aruncă în fiecare zi cel fără minte!
23
Nu uita strigătele protivnicilor Tăi, zarva care creşte necurmat a celor ce se ridică împotriva Ta!
