Cuvântul Domnului care a fost către Ieremia prorocul despre filisteni, mai înainte ca Faraon să fi lovit Gaza.

Așa zice Domnul: Iată, se ridică ape de la miazănoapte și se vor face un potop și va năpădi țara și tot ce este în ea, cetatea și locuitorii săi: și oamenii vor striga și toți locuitorii țării vor urla

de tropăitul copitelor celor puternici ai săi, de uruitul carelor sale, de scârțâitul roților sale. Părinții nu se vor uita înapoi după copiii lor de slăbiciunea mâinilor,

din pricina zilei care vine să nimicească pe toți filistenii, să stârpească din Tir și din Sidon orice ajutor care rămâne. Căci Domnul va nimici pe filisteni, rămășița ostrovului Caftor.

Peste Gaza a venit pleșuvia; Ascalonul este stârpit cu rămășița văii lor!… Până când îți vei face tăieturi?

Ah, sabie a Domnului, până când nu vei fi liniștită? Întră în teaca ta, odihnește‐te și fii liniștită.
7
Cum să fii liniștită când Domnul ți‐a dat o poruncă împotriva Ascalonului și împotriva țărmului mării? — într‐acolo a rânduit‐o.
