巴比倫 王 尼布甲尼撒 將 猶大 國的王 約雅敬 的兒子 約哥尼亞 和 猶大 的侯伯、並一切木匠、鐵匠、從 耶路撒冷 擄去、擄到 巴比倫 、這事以後、主指示我有二筐裝滿無花果、放在主的殿前。

一筐裝的是極美的無花果、像是首熟的無花果、一筐裝的是極惡劣的無花果、惡劣得不可吃。

主問我說、 耶利米 你看見甚麼。我說、我看見無花果、美好的極其美好、惡劣的極其惡劣、惡劣得不可吃。

主又曉諭我說、

以色列 天主耶和華如此說、被擄的 猶大 人、就是我從這地遷移到 迦勒底 地的、我必看如這美好的無花果、施恩與他們。
6
我眼必眷顧他們、施恩與他們、領他們仍歸這地、必建立他們、不再毀壞、培植他們、不再拔除。
7
我必賦畀他們認識我的心、他們必知道我是耶和華、他們必作我的民、我必作他們的天主、因為他們必一心歸依我。
8
主又如此說、我必使 猶大 王 西底家 和他的侯伯、以及剩在這地的 耶路撒冷 的遺民、並住 伊及 地的 猶大 人、都如這惡劣得不可吃的惡劣無花果。
9
我必使地上萬國凌辱他們、惡待他們、使他們在我趕逐他們到的各處受羞辱、作話靶、被譏笑、受咒詛。
10
我必使他們遭遇刀劍饑荒瘟疫、直到他們在我所賜他們和他們列祖的地上滅絕。
