En valfartssang. Herre, du husker Davids hengivenhed.

Han gav et højtideligt løfte, han sagde til Israels mægtige Gud:

„Jeg under mig ikke ro, jeg vil ikke lægge mig til hvile,
4
jeg vil ikke sove, jeg vil ikke lukke et øje,
5
før jeg har bygget Herren et hus, en værdig bolig for Israels vældige Gud!”
6
Man hørte i Betlehem, at pagtens ark var blevet set, og så tog de til Jaʼars marker og fandt den.
7
Da den var ført til Davidsbyen, sagde de: „Lad os tilbede Gud i helligdommen og bøje os for ham.
8
Kom, Herre, indtag din bolig, på den ark, der viser din magt.
9
Må dine præster altid gøre det rette, og dit trofaste folk juble af glæde.”
10
Du gav et løfte til David og hans slægt. Forkast ikke din udvalgte konge.
11
Du lovede David med en ed, et løfte, som ikke kan brydes: „En fra din slægt vil jeg gøre til konge.
12
Og hvis dine efterkommere vil holde min pagt og adlyde mine befalinger, skal din slægt blive ved at regere, sidde på tronen til evig tid.”
13
Herren har udvalgt Zion, dér ønsker han at bo.
14
„Dette er mit blivende hjem, det er her, jeg har valgt at bo.
15
Jeg velsigner byen med overflod, jeg giver de fattige mad at spise.
16
Jeg vil være med præsterne, mine trofaste tjenere skal råbe af glæde.
17
Derfra skal en mægtig konge spire frem, fra Davids slægt, som jeg har udvalgt.
18
Hans fjender vil blive til skamme, men han selv skal regere i herlighed.”
