Af David. Lovet være du, Herre, du er min urokkelige Klippe. Du træner mine hænder til kamp, du styrker mine fingre til krig.

Du er min trofaste beskytter, mit skjold, min tilflugt og befrier. Jeg søger ly og hjælp hos dig, for du giver mig sejr over de fremmede folkeslag.

Hvad er et menneske, at du tænker på det, et menneskebarn, at du tager dig af det.

Et menneskes liv er flygtigt som et åndepust, som en skygge passerer livet forbi.

Skub himlens forhæng til side og stig ned, sæt din fod på bjergene, så de hylles i røg.

Send dine lyn, Herre, spred fjenderne, jag dem på flugt med dine pile.

Ræk hånden ned til mig fra himlen, træk mig op af det frådende dyb. Red mig fra dette hav af fjender, befri mig fra de fremmedes magt.

De er fulde af løgn, og de sværger gerne falsk.

Jeg vil synge en ny sang til dig, Gud, spille for dig på en ti-strenget harpe.

For du gav dine konger sejr, du hjalp din tjener David.

Red mig fra det dødbringende sværd, fra fremmede folkeslags herredømme. De er jo fulde af løgn og sværger gerne falsk.

Gid vore sønner må vokse sig stærke og stå ranke som store træer. Gid vore døtre må vokse sig smukke som de kunstfærdige søjler i paladset.

Gid vore lader må blive fulde af al slags afgrøde og vore får formere sig i tusindvis, så de står tæt på alle vore marker.

Gid vore køer må få masser af kalve. Jeg beder om, at byens porte ikke bliver brudt ned, at ingen af os bliver taget til fange, og at vi bliver skånet for jamren på torvene.

Velsignet er det folk, som oplever dette. Lykkeligt det folk, der har Herren til Gud.
