Esta es la palabra que habló el profeta Jeremías a Baruc hijo de Nerías, cuando escribía en el libro estas palabras dictadas por Jeremías, en el año cuarto de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá:

—Así te ha dicho el Señor, Dios de Israel, a ti, Baruc:

Tú dijiste: «¡Ay de mí ahora!, porque ha añadido el Señor tristeza a mi dolor. Fatigado estoy de gemir, y no he hallado descanso».

Le dirás: «Así ha dicho el Señor: Yo destruyo a los que edifiqué y arranco a los que planté, esto es, a toda esta tierra,

¿y tú buscas para ti grandezas? ¡No las busques!, porque yo traigo mal sobre todo ser viviente, ha dicho el Señor; pero a ti te daré la vida por botín en cualquier lugar adonde vayas».
