Palabra del Señor que vino al profeta Jeremías acerca de los filisteos, antes de que Faraón destruyera Gaza.

Así ha dicho el Señor: Suben aguas del norte y se harán un torrente; inundarán la tierra y todo lo que hay en ella, la ciudad y a los que habitan en ella. La gente pedirá ayuda, y todos los habitantes de la tierra gemirán,

por el estrépito de los cascos de sus caballos, por el retumbar de sus carros, por el estruendo de sus ruedas. Los padres no cuidan de los hijos, porque sus manos están sin fuerzas.

Ha llegado el día de destruir a todos los filisteos, de destruir a todo aliado que todavía les quede a Tiro y a Sidón. Porque el Señor destruirá a los filisteos, al resto de la costa de Caftor.

Gaza se rapó la cabeza, Ascalón ha perecido, y el resto de su valle; ¿cuándo dejarás de sajarte?

Espada del Señor, ¿cuándo vas a descansar? ¡Vuelve a tu vaina, reposa y sosiégate!
7
Pero ¿cómo reposarás, si el Señor te ha enviado contra Ascalón y contra la costa del mar? Allí te ha destinado.
