Il Signore disse a Noè: "Entra nell' arca con tutta la tua famiglia. Ho visto che di tutta questa generazione tu solo sei giusto.
2
Prendi con te sette coppie di tutti gli animali non impuri: sette maschi e sette femmine. Di tutti gli altri prendi invece una sola coppia: un maschio e la sua femmina.
3
Devi anche prendere sette coppie di ogni tipo di uccelli: maschi e femmine, per conservare la loro specie sulla terra,
4
perché fra una settimana io farò piovere sulla terra per quaranta giorni e quaranta notti ininterrottamente. Così farò scomparire dalla faccia della terra tutti gli esseri viventi che ho fatto".

Noè eseguì quel che il Signore gli aveva comandato.
6
Aveva seicento anni quando venne il diluvio e le acque inondarono la terra.
7
Per sfuggire al diluvio Noè entrò nell' arca con i suoi figli, la moglie e le nuore,
8
con gli animali puri e impuri, gli uccelli e tutti i rettili che strisciano sulla terra.
9
Come Dio aveva comandato a Noè, gli animali andarono da lui nell' arca, a coppie: maschi e femmine.
10
Dopo una settimana venne il diluvio sulla terra.
11
Quando Noè compiva seicento anni, il giorno diciassette del secondo mese, le acque sotterranee uscirono con violenza da tutte le sorgenti e le riserve del cielo si spalancarono.
12
Piovve sulla terra per quaranta giorni e quaranta notti.
13
Fu proprio in quel giorno che Noè entrò nell' arca con i figli Sem, Cam e Iafet, con sua moglie e le mogli dei suoi figli.
14
Con loro entrarono ogni specie di animali selvatici e domestici, ogni genere di rettili che strisciano al suolo e ogni razza di uccelli e di volatili.
15
Vennero dunque nell' arca con Noè coppie di ogni essere vivente.
16
Maschio e femmina di ogni specie entrarono, come Dio aveva comandato. Poi il Signore chiuse la porta dell' arca dietro a Noè.
17
Il diluvio continuò per quaranta giorni sulla terra. Le acque aumentarono e sollevarono l' arca dal suolo.
18
Acquistarono forza, crebbero ancora e su di esse l' arca andava alla deriva.
19
Con maggior violenza le acque continuarono ad aumentare sulla terra finché sommersero tutti i monti. Li coprirono completamente;
20
superarono di oltre sette metri le più alte cime.
21
Morì tutto ciò che aveva vita sulla terra: uccelli, animali domestici e selvatici, tutte le piccole bestie che si muovono sul suolo, e anche tutti gli uomini.
22
Morì tutto quel che prima aveva vita sulla terra asciutta.
23
Fu distrutta ogni forma di vita sulla superficie della terra: furono sterminati uomini e bestie, rettili e uccelli. Sopravvissero solamente Noè quelli che erano con lui nell' arca.
24
Sulla terra il livello delle acque rimase alta per centocinquanta giorni.
