Canto. Salmo dei figli di Core. Per il Maestro del coro. Da cantarsi mestamente. Cantico di Eman, l’Ezraita. O Eterno, Dio della mia salvezza, io grido giorno e notte nel tuo cospetto.

Giunga fino a te la mia preghiera, inclina il tuo orecchio al mio grido;
3
poiché l’anima mia è sazia di mali, e la mia vita è giunta vicina al soggiorno dei morti.
4
Io sono contato fra quelli che scendono nella tomba; sono come un uomo che non ha più forza.
5
Sono prostrato, fra i morti, come gli uccisi che giacciono nella tomba, dei quali tu non ti ricordi più, e che sono fuori dalla portata della tua mano.
6
Tu mi hai messo nella fossa più profonda, in luoghi tenebrosi, negli abissi.
7
L’ira tua pesa su di me, tu mi hai abbattuto con tutti i tuoi flutti.
8
Hai allontanato da me i miei amici, mi hai reso un’abominazione per loro. Io sono imprigionato e non posso uscire.
9
I miei occhi si consumano per l’afflizione; io t’invoco ogni giorno, o Eterno, tendo le mie mani verso di te.
10
Farai tu qualche miracolo per i morti? I defunti risorgeranno per celebrarti?
11
La tua bontà sarà narrata nel sepolcro? O la tua fedeltà nel luogo della distruzione?
12
Le tue meraviglie saranno esse note nelle tenebre, e la tua giustizia nella terra dell’oblìo?
13
Ma, quanto a me, o Eterno, io grido a te, e la mattina la mia preghiera ti viene incontro.
14
Perché, o Eterno, respingi l’anima mia? Perché nascondi il tuo volto da me?
15
Io sono afflitto, e morente fin da giovane; io porto il peso dei tuoi terrori e sono smarrito.
16
Il tuo furore è passato sopra di me, i tuoi spaventi mi hanno annientato,
17
mi circondano come acque ogni giorno, mi circondano tutti assieme.
18
Hai allontanato da me amici e conoscenti; le tenebre sono la mia compagnia.
