Detta är Herrens ord som kom till profeten Jeremia om filisteerna, innan farao hade intagit Gaza:

Så säger Herren:Se, vatten stiger upp från norroch blir till en flod som svämmar över.Den översvämmar landet med allt som finns i det,städerna och dem som bor där inne.Människorna ropar,och landets alla invånare jämrar sig.

När ljudet hörs av hovslagen från hans hingstar,när hans vagnar dånaroch när hans hjul bullrar,då ser sig fäderna inte om efter barnen.De står maktlösa

inför den dag som kommerdå alla filisteer förintas,då alla de utrotas som är kvarför att försvara Tyrus och Sidon.Ty Herren skall förinta filisteerna,kvarlevan från Kaftors ö.

Gazas huvud skall rakas,det är förbi med Askelon,med kvarlevan i deras dal.Hur länge skall du rista märken på dig?

O, du Herrens svärd,när skall du äntligen få ro?Drag dig in i din skida,vila och var stilla.

Men hur skall det kunna få rodå Herren har givit sin befallning?Mot Askelon och mot kustlandet vid havet,mot dem har han bestämt det.
