De David. Merci au Seigneur, mon solide rocher! Il m’apprend à lutter, il me prépare au combat.

Le Seigneur est mon protecteur et mon défenseur. Il me protège avec puissance et il me libère, il est le bouclier qui m’abrite. C’est lui qui met les peuples sous mes pieds.

Seigneur, qu’est-ce que l’homme pour que tu fasses attention à lui? Qu’est-ce qu’un être humain pour que tu penses à lui?

L’homme n’est qu’un souffle, sa vie ressemble à une ombre qui passe.

Seigneur, abaisse ton ciel et descends, touche les montagnes, qu’elles soient couvertes de fumée!

Lance des éclairs et chasse tes ennemis de tous côtés. Envoie tes flèches, et qu’ils fuient en tous sens!

Tends-moi la main du haut du ciel, sauve-moi et délivre-moi de l’eau puissante, de la main des étrangers.

Ils mentent, ils jurent de dire la vérité, mais ils ne tiennent pas leurs promesses.

Ô Dieu, je veux te chanter un chant nouveau, jouer pour toi sur la harpe à dix cordes.

C’est toi qui donnes la victoire aux rois, c’est toi qui sauves de l’épée cruelle David, ton serviteur.

Sauve-moi, délivre-moi de la main des étrangers! Ils mentent, ils jurent de dire la vérité, mais ils ne tiennent pas leurs promesses.

Nos fils sont comme des arbres qui ont poussé facilement depuis leur jeunesse. Nos filles ressemblent aux colonnes sculptées qui décorent les maisons des rois.

Nos greniers débordent, remplis de toutes sortes de biens. Nos moutons se multiplient mille fois, même dix mille fois dans nos champs.

Nos bœufs sont bien gras. Il n’y a pas de trous dans nos murs de défense, plus de départs en exil, on n’entend plus de cris de douleur sur nos places.

Il est heureux, le peuple qui possède tout cela, il est heureux, le peuple qui a le Seigneur comme Dieu!
