"Sono stanco di vivere, perciò parlerò liberamente, sfogherò tutto il mio dolore.

A Dio dirò: "Non condannarmi! Fammi sapere di che cosa mi accusi!

Ti sembra giusto opprimermi, maltrattare l' uomo che hai fatto e favorire l' opera dei malvagi?

Hai forse occhi come i nostri e vedi le cose come gli uomini?

Sono forse i tuoi giorni e i tuoi anni brevi come quelli dei comuni mortali?

Perché allora cerchi i miei errori ed esamini i miei peccati?

Tu sai che sono innocente e nessuno può sottrarmi a te.

"Tu mi hai fatto con le tue mani, mi hai plasmato e ora mi distruggi.

Ricordati: mi hai modellato come argilla e ora mi fai tornare nella polvere.
10
Tu mi hai colato come il latte e lavorato come il formaggio,

mi hai coperto di carne e di pelle, mi hai intrecciato d' ossa e di nervi.

Tu mi hai concesso la vita, hai vegliato con affetto su ogni mio respiro.

"Ma tu, o Dio, tramavi qualcosa, ora so che cosa avevi in mente:

volevi vedere se peccavo per punire le mie colpe.
15
Se sbaglio, guai a me! Se mi comporto bene, non posso vantarmi! Non mi resta che vergogna e afflizione.
16
Se insuperbisco, mi abbatti come un leone, mi colpisci con tutta la tua forza:

mi attacchi continuamente, ti avventi su di me con furore e non ti stanchi mai.

"Perché mi hai fatto venire alla luce? Avrei voluto morire prima di nascere! Nessuno mi avrebbe visto.
19
Non sarei mai esistito, sarei passato dal grembo alla tomba.
20
La mia esistenza è alla fine. Lasciami in pace, dammi un po' di respiro!
21
Partirò, non tornerò più, andrò nel regno delle ombre e delle tenebre,

dove disordine e oscurità regnano sovrane".
