Eliu continuò rivolto a Giobbe:

"Pensi di avere avuto ragione quando ti sei dichiarato giusto davanti a Dio
3
e quando hai detto che il tuo peccato non ti premia né ti danneggia?
4
Ora io voglio rispondere a te e ai tuoi amici.
5
Alza gli occhi al cielo e guarda, vedi quanto le nuvole sono al di sopra di te.
6
Se fai il male, tu non colpisci Dio, lassù, tutti i tuoi peccati non possono fargli niente.
7
Se ti comporti bene, tu non dai nulla a Dio, egli non riceve nulla dalle tue mani.
8
Invece, il male che fai danneggia i tuoi simili; allo stesso modo, il bene che fai va a vantaggio degli uomini.
9
"Molti piangono per le violenze subite, invocano la liberazione dagli oppressori,
10
ma non si rivolgono a Dio, il creatore. Egli dà coraggio nei momenti più oscuri,
11
ha fatto l' uomo più intelligente degli animali, più sapiente degli uccelli.
12
Però non risponde alle grida degli uomini, perché sono orgogliosi e malvagi.
13
Dio non li ascolta; gridano inutilmente, l' Onnipotente non li guarda neppure.
14
Tu, Giobbe, osi dire che non vedi Dio, ma aspetta, egli conosce il tuo caso.
15
Tu credi che Dio non si curi del peccato perché non viene a punire;
16
apri la bocca per dire sciocchezze e non sai quel che dici".
