Iată cuvântul ce-a fost spus, De Ieremia, când s-a dus Baruc la el și-apoi a scris, În carte, ceea ce i-a zis Prorocul, chiar când împlinea Ani patru, de când stăpânea, În Iuda, Ioiachim, cel care, Pe Iosia, părinte-l are:

„Așa vorbește Domnul – Cel Ce-i Dumnezeu în Israel – Despre Baruc, acela care, Pe Neriia, părinte-l are:

„Iată că Eu văzut-am bine Că tu ai tot zis: „Vai de mine, Căci Domnul pus-a întristare, Peste durerea mea cea mare! Suspinele mă ostenesc, Iar tihna nu mi-o mai găsesc!”

Dar Dumnezeu a cuvântat: „Îi spune lui Baruc, de-ndat’: „Voi dărâma ce am zidit, Voi smulge ceea ce-am sădit! E vorba despre-această țară.

Însă, ce faci tu, bunăoară? Umbli doar după lucruri cari Se-arată precum că sunt mari? Uită de lucrurile-acele Și nu mai umbla după ele! Căci iată, peste toată firea, Aduce-voi nenorocirea. Făpturile nu vor putea Să se ferească-atunci, de ea. Dar ție, pradă de război, Chiar viața ta ți-o dau apoi, În toate locurile-n care Te va purta a ta cărare.”
