Acosteu-vos, nacions, per escoltar! Pobles, estigueu atents! Que escolti la terra i tot el que s’hi mou, el món i tot el que hi germina.

El Senyor s’indigna contra les nacions i contra els seus exèrcits. Els destina a l’extermini i al carnatge.
3
Les seves víctimes seran llançades arreu, pujarà la fetor dels cadàvers, la sang s’escolarà per les muntanyes.
4
Es fondrà tota l’estelada, el cel s’enrotllarà com un full de paper. Tots els astres es decandiran com es decandeixen les fulles del cep o les figues secallones.
5
«La meva espasa — diu el Senyor — s’ha embriagat dalt al cel i s’abat de cop sobre Edom, sobre aquest poble condemnat a l’extermini.»
6
L’espasa del Senyor és xopa de sang i coberta de greix, com quan maten anyells i bocs, com quan treuen els ronyons als marrans. El Senyor immola la gent de Bosrà, fa un gran carnatge al país d’Edom.
7
Cauen al mateix temps els búfals, els vedells i els toros. La terra d’Edom s’embriaga de sang, la seva pols s’impregna de greix.
8
És el dia de la justícia del Senyor, l’any de demanar comptes als enemics de Sió.
9
L’aigua dels torrents d’Edom es convertirà en quitrà, es tornarà sofre la seva pols. Tot el país serà com un quitrà encès,
10
que no s’apagarà ni de nit ni de dia: la fumarada s’alçarà per sempre. De segle en segle, el país serà un desert, mai més no hi passarà ningú.
11
En prendran possessió l’eriçó i el mussol; el duc i el corb hi habitaran. El Senyor hi tibarà el cordill del caos i la plomada de la desolació.
12
No hi haurà nobles per a proclamar rei, no hi restarà ni un sol governant.
13
Els palaus quedaran envaïts amb matolls d’espines; ortigues i cards ompliran les fortaleses; seran cau de xacals, domini dels estruços.
14
Els gats mesquers s’hi reuniran amb les hienes, i els sàtirs es cridaran l’un a l’altre. Allà reposarà la fantasma Lilit, allà hi trobarà recer.
15
La serp hi niarà, hi pondrà els ous i els vetllarà fins que s’obrin. Allà també es reuniran els voltors els uns amb els altres.
16
Si cerqueu en el llibre del Senyor, podreu llegir-hi: «De tots ells, no en manca cap, s’han trobat els uns amb els altres, perquè el Senyor ho ha manat a través meu, el seu esperit els ha aplegat.
17
Ell ha sortejat la part de cada un, la seva mà els ha repartit el país: el posseiran per sempre més, l’habitaran per segles i segles.»
