— Baruc, això et fa saber el Senyor, Déu d’Israel:

“Tu dius: ‘Pobre de mi! El Senyor afegeix pena al meu dolor, no em canso de gemegar i no trobo repòs.’

Ara tu, Jeremies, digues-li: ‘Això et diu el Senyor: Enruno el que havia construït i arrenco el que havia plantat, i ho faig arreu de la terra.

Però demanes massa coses per a tu. No en demanis més. Ara que faig caure calamitats sobre tothom, a tu et concedeixo la pròpia vida com a premi, vagis on vagis. T’ho dic jo, el Senyor.’ ”
