Au maître chantre. Cantique de David. Éternel, délivre-moi des hommes malfaisants! Garde-moi contre les hommes violents,

qui complotent le mal dans leur cœur, et toujours sont occupés de guerres!

Ils dardent leur langue, tels que des serpents, et le venin de l'aspic est sous leurs lèvres. (Pause)

Garantis-moi, Éternel, contre le bras de l'impie, et préserve-moi des hommes violents, qui méditent de faire broncher mes pieds!

Des superbes cachent sous mes pas des pièges et des lacs, ils tendent des rets au bord de la voie, et me dressent des embûches. (Pause)

Je dis à l'Éternel: Tu es mon Dieu! Éternel, prête l'oreille à ma voix suppliante!

L'Éternel, le Seigneur, est mon puissant secours; tu abrites ma tête au jour de la mêlée.

Éternel, n'accomplis pas les souhaits de l'impie! Ne laisse pas leur plan réussir; ils en seraient fiers! (Pause)

Que sur la tête de ceux qui me cernent, retombent les menaces que prononcent leurs lèvres!

Que sur eux des charbons soient secoués, et qu'il les précipite dans les flammes, et dans les flots, pour qu'ils ne se relèvent pas!

L'homme à la langue {[}méchante{]} ne dure pas sur la terre; et le violent, le malheur le poursuit à coups redoublés.

Je sais que l'Éternel fait droit à l'affligé, et justice aux indigents.

Oui, les justes célébreront ton nom; les hommes droits demeurent en ta présence.
