Cantique d'Asaph. O Dieu! les nations ont envahi ton héritage, profané ton saint temple, mis Jérusalem en ruines.

Elles ont livré les cadavres de tes serviteurs en proie aux oiseaux des Cieux, la chair de tes bien-aimés aux bêtes de la terre.

Elles ont versé leur sang, comme de l'eau, autour de Jérusalem, et il n'y eut point de sépulture.

Nous sommes l'opprobre de nos voisins, le jouet et la risée des contrées d'alentour.

Jusques à quand, Éternel, ne cesseras-tu d'être irrité, ta fureur s'embrasera-t-elle comme un feu?

Epanche ton courroux sur les nations qui t'ignorent, et sur les royaumes qui n'invoquent pas ton nom.

Car on a dévoré Jacob, et dévasté sa demeure.

Ne nous garde pas la mémoire des crimes du passé! Hâte-toi de nous faire sentir tes compassions! car nous sommes très misérables.

Sois-nous en aide, ô Dieu, notre Sauveur, pour l'honneur de ton nom! Et sauve-nous et pardonne nos fautes, pour l'amour de ton nom!

Pourquoi faut-il que les nations disent: «Où est leur Dieu?» Que parmi les nations, à nos yeux, éclate la vengeance du sang de tes serviteurs qui fut répandu!

Que devant toi parviennent les soupirs des captifs, par le pouvoir de ton bras sauve les enfants de la mort!

Reverse à nos voisins sept fois dans leur sein les outrages dont ils t'outragèrent, Seigneur.
13
Et nous, ton peuple, le troupeau dont tu es le pasteur, nous te rendrons grâces éternellement, et d'âge en âge nous redirons tes louanges.
