Prière de Moïse, homme de Dieu. Éternel, tu as été notre refuge d'une génération à l'autre génération;

avant que les montagnes fussent enfantées, et que tu eusses engendré la terre et le monde, oui, de l'éternité à l'éternité tu es, ô Dieu.

Tu fais rentrer l'homme dans la poudre, et tu dis: «Rentrez-y, enfants des hommes!»

Car mille ans sont à tes yeux comme le jour d'hier, quand il est passé, et comme une veille dans la nuit.
5
Tu les emportes, ils sont un rêve; le matin, comme l'herbe, l'homme lève;
6
le matin il fleurit et lève; le soir il est tranché, et il sèche.
7
Car nous sommes consumés par ta colère, et par ton courroux nous sommes terrassés.
8
Tu produis nos péchés à ta vue, et nos secrets à la lumière de ta face.
9
Car tous nos jours fuient devant ta fureur, nous perdons nos années, comme une pensée.
10
Les jours de notre vie, ce sont soixante-dix années, et, pour les forts, quatre-vingts années; et ce qui fait leur orgueil est peine et néant; car il passe vite, et nous nous envolons.
11
Qui connaît la puissance de ta colère, et mesure ton courroux sur la crainte qui t'est due?
12
Apprends-nous à faire un tel compte de nos jours, que nous acquérions un cœur sage!
13
Reviens, Éternel! Jusques à quand?… \ Et prends pitié de tes serviteurs!
14
Rassasie-nous bientôt de ta grâce, et nous serons triomphants et joyeux durant tous nos jours!
15
Donne-nous de la joie pour le temps que tu nous affligeas, pour les années où nous connûmes le malheur!
16
Rends ton action visible à tes serviteurs, et ta majesté à leurs enfants!
17
Que la faveur du Seigneur, notre Dieu, soit sur nous! Et consolide pour nous l'œuvre de nos mains, oui, consolide l'œuvre de nos mains!
