Eftir Davíð. Lofaður sé Drottinn, bjarg mitt, sem æfir hendur mínar til bardaga, fingur mína til orrustu.

Þú ert miskunn mín og vígi, vörn mín og hjálparhella, skjöldur minn og athvarf, hann leggur undir mig þjóðir.

Drottinn, hvað er maðurinn, að þú þekkir hann, mannsins barn, að þú gefir því gaum?
4
Maðurinn er sem vindblær, dagar hans líða hjá eins og skuggi.
5
Drottinn, sveig þú himin þinn og stíg niður, snertu fjöllin svo að úr þeim rjúki,
6
lát eldingar leiftra og tvístra óvinum þínum, skjót örvum þínum og hrek þá burt.
7
Rétt út hönd þína frá hæðum, hríf mig burt og bjarga mér úr beljandi vatnsflaumi, úr greipum framandi manna
8
sem tala lygi með munni sínum og svíkja með hægri hendi sinni.
9
Guð, ég vil syngja þér nýjan söng, leika fyrir þig á tístrengjaða hörpu,
10
fyrir þig, sem veitir konungum sigur, bjargar Davíð þjóni sínum
11
undan ógnandi sverði. Hríf mig burt og bjarga mér úr greipum framandi manna sem tala lygi með munni sínum og svíkja með hægri hendi sinni.
12
Synir vorir líkjast viðarteinungum sem uxu hátt í æskuþrótti sínum, dætur vorar eru sem súlur, úthöggnar til hallarprýði.
13
Hlöður vorar eru fullar og geyma afurðir af hverri tegund. Búfé vort fjölgar sér þúsundfalt, margþúsundfalt á haglendum vorum.
14
Kýrnar eru kálffullar. Engin innrás og engir hernumdir, engin neyðaróp á strætum vorum.
15
Sæl er sú þjóð sem þannig farnast, sæl er sú þjóð sem á Drottin að Guði.
