Pirms kalni dzima un pirms tu dzemdēji zemi un pasauli, no mūžiem līdz mūžiem tu – Dievs!

Tu cilvēku putekļiem atdod un saki: dodieties atpakaļ, cilvēku bērni! –

Jo tūkstoš gadi tavās acīs kā vakardiena, kas prom, kā sardzes laiks, kas naktī.

Tu tos aizrauj kā plūdos, tie ir kā rīta miegs, kā zāle, kas tvīkst –

no rīta tā zeļ, tad tvīkst, līdz vakaram novīst un kalst.

Tā mēs nīkstam tavās dusmās, un tavs niknums mūs iztrūcina,

visas mūsu apgrēcības tavā priekšā, mūsu noslēpumi – tava vaiga gaismā,

viss mūsu mūžs tavās dusmās pagaist, mūsu gadi kā nopūta zūd.

Mūsu mūžs – septiņdesmit gadu vai, kurš visai stiprs, astoņdesmit gadu, viss šis laiks – pūles un posts, garām ir, un – lidojam prom!
