Han sverget til HERREN, ga Jakobs Mektige et løfte:

«Jeg vil ikke gå inn i mitt hus, ikke legge meg i sengen,

ikke unne meg blund på øynene og ikke la øyelokkene hvile
5
før jeg har funnet et sted for HERREN, en bolig for Jakobs Mektige.»

Vi hørte om paktkisten i Efrata, vi fant den på markene ved Jaar.

La oss gå inn i hans bolig, kaste oss ned for hans fotskammel!

Reis deg, HERRE, og kom til ditt hvilested, du og paktkisten, som er din styrke.
9
Dine prester skal kle seg i rettferd, dine trofaste skal rope av fryd.

For David, din tjeners skyld, vis ikke fra deg den du har salvet!

HERREN har sverget til David et pålitelig ord han ikke går fra: «Din livsfrukt vil jeg sette på din trone.
12
Hvis dine sønner holder min pakt og loven jeg vil lære dem, så skal også sønnene deres alltid sitte på din trone.»

For HERREN har utvalgt Sion, henne vil han ha til bolig:

«Dette skal alltid være mitt hvilested, her vil jeg bo, for henne vil jeg ha.
15
Maten hennes vil jeg velsigne, de fattige metter jeg med brød,
16
prestene hennes kler jeg i frelse, de trofaste skal rope av fryd.
17
Der lar jeg et horn vokse fram for David, jeg gjør i stand en lampe for den jeg har salvet.
18
Fienden vil jeg kle i skam, men på ham skal kronen stråle.»
