Av David. HERREN er mitt lys og min frelse, hvem skulle jeg være redd for? HERREN er mitt livs vern, hvem skulle jeg frykte?

Når voldsmenn og fiender nærmer seg for å sluke meg, da snubler de og faller selv.

Om en hær vil beleire meg, er mitt hjerte uten frykt. Om krigen truer, er jeg likevel trygg.

Én ting ber jeg HERREN om, dette ønsker jeg: å få bo i HERRENS hus alle mine dager, så jeg kan se HERRENS skjønnhet og være i hans tempel.

Han gjemmer meg i sin hytte på den onde dagen. Han skjuler meg i sitt telt og løfter meg opp på klippen.

Nå rager mitt hode høyt over fienden omkring meg. Med jubel vil jeg bære fram offer i hans telt. Jeg vil synge og spille for HERREN.

Hør, HERRE! Jeg roper høyt. Vær meg nådig og svar meg!

Jeg minnes at du har sagt: «Dere skal søke mitt ansikt.» Ditt ansikt søker jeg, HERRE.

Skjul ikke ansiktet for meg! Vis ikke din tjener bort i vrede, du som har vært min hjelp. Gud, min frelser, forkast meg ikke og forlat meg ikke.

Om far og mor forlater meg, vil HERREN ta imot meg.

HERRE, lær meg din vei og før meg på jevne stier, for jeg er omgitt av fiender.
12
Gi meg ikke over til grådige fiender! For falske vitner står opp mot meg, menn som truer med vold.
13
Men jeg vet at jeg skal se HERRENS godhet i de levendes land.
14
Sett ditt håp til HERREN! Vær frimodig og sterk, ja, sett ditt håp til HERREN!
