Av David. Velsignet er HERREN, min klippe, han som lærer opp hendene mine til strid og fingrene til krig.

Han er min miskunn, min borg og mitt vern, han er min befrier og mitt skjold. Jeg søker tilflukt hos ham, han legger folket mitt under meg!

HERRE, hva er vel et menneske, siden du vil kjenne det, et menneskebarn, siden du tenker på det?

Mennesket ligner et pust, våre dager er som en flyktende skygge.

HERRE, bøy din himmel og stig ned, rør ved fjellene så det ryker av dem!

La lynet blinke og spre dem! Skyt pilene dine og skrem dem!

Rekk hånden ut fra det høye, fri meg og berg meg fra veldige vann, fra fremmedes hånd.

Med munnen taler de tomme ord, med hevet høyre hånd sverger de falskt.

Gud, jeg vil synge en ny sang og spille for deg på tistrenget harpe.

Du gir konger seier og frir din tjener David fra det onde sverdet.

Alt som unge ligner sønnene våre høyvokste planter. Døtrene er som bæresøyler skåret ut for et palass.

Da blir forrådskamrene fulle, de bugner av all slags mat. Sauene våre ute i marken øker til tusen, ja, mange tusen.

Da blir kyrne våre fete. Ingen bryter ut, og ingen blir borte. Ingen klage høres på torgene.

Salig er det folket som har det slik, salig er det folket som har HERREN til Gud!
