L’any que el Tartan o general en cap vingué a Asdod enviat per Sargon, rei d’Assíria, que va assal-tar-la i la conquerí,

el Senyor, en aquell temps, va parlar per mitjà d’Isaïes, fill d’Amós, i li digué: “Vés, desvesteix-te del sac que portes i treu-te el calçat dels peus.” Ell ho va fer així, i anava despullat i descalç.
3
Llavors el Senyor digué: “Tal com el meu servent Isaïes ha caminat despullat i descalç durant tres anys, com a senyal i anunci contra l’Egipte i Etiòpia,
4
així conduirà el rei d’Assíria els cap-tius d’Egipte i els deportats d’Etiòpia, joves i vells, despullats i descalços, amb les natges descobertes, per a vergonya dels egipcis.
5
Llavors tots quedaran aterrats i aver-gonyits d’Etiòpia, que els feia costat, i de l’Egipte, en qui es gloriaven.
6
I els habitants d’aquesta costa diran, aquell dia: “Mireu com ha acabat el qui era la nostra esperança, aquell a qui acu-díem a demanar auxili per salvar-nos del rei d’Assíria! I ara, com podrem es-capar, nosaltres?”
