Taip kalba VIEŠPATS: „Kur jūsų motinos skyrybų raštas, kuriuo ją paleidau? Kuriam gi skolintojui pardaviau jus? Tik dėl savo nuodėmių buvote parduoti, tik dėl savo nusižengimų buvo paleista jūsų motina.

Kodėl nebuvo nė vieno, kai atėjau? Kodėl niekas neatsiliepė, kai šaukiau? Nejau mano ranka per trumpa, kad išpirkčiau? Argi man stinga jėgų, kad išvaduočiau? Štai vien pagrūmojimu išdžiovinu jūrą, dykuma paverčiu upes! Jose žuvys, netekusios vandens, dvokia ir gaišta nuo troškulio.

Viešpats DIEVAS davė man iškalbų liežuvį, kad gebėčiau žodžiu stiprinti nuvargusius. Kas rytą jis žadina mano ausį, kad klausyčiausi tarsi mokinys.

Viešpats DIEVAS atvėrė man ausis. Aš nemaištavau, atgal nesitraukiau.

Atsukau nugarą mane plakantiems, atkišau žandus raunantiems man barzdą, nuo užgauliojimo ir spjūvių neslėpiau veido.

Viešpats DIEVAS man padeda, todėl aš nesu pažemintas. Nutaisiau veidą, kietą kaip titnagas, ir žinau, kad nebūsiu sugėdintas.

Mano gynėjas arti; kas drįs su manimi bylinėtis? Stokime vienas prieš kitą teisman! Kas kelia bylą prieš mane? Tegu man prisistato!

Štai Viešpats DIEVAS man padeda; kas gi mane pasmerks? Jie visi sutrūnys kaip drabužis, kandys juos sugrauš.

Kas iš jūsų bijo VIEŠPATIES ir paklūsta jo tarno balsui? Kas gyvena naktyje be šviesos, pasitikėdamas VIEŠPATIES vardu ir neabejodamas savo Dievu?

Visi jūs, kurie kuriatės ugnį ir žiebiatės deglus, gyvenkite pagal savo ugnies šviesą ir pagal deglus, kuriuos įsižiebėte! Nuo mano rankos tai pareina: jūs gulsite į skausmo patalą.
