Op 'n keer het koning Sargon van Assirië die hoof van sy leër na die Filistynse stad Asdod toe gestuur. Hy het teen dié stad oorlog gemaak en dit verower.

In daardie tyd het die Here vir Jesaja seun van Amos gesê: Trek jou klere uit en ook jou skoene. Jesaja het dit gedoen: hy het sonder klere en sonder skoene rondgeloop.

Toe Asdod ingeneem is, het die Here gesê: Soos my dienaar Jesaja drie jaar lank sonder klere en sonder skoene rondgeloop het as 'n lewende getuie teen Egipte en teen Kus,

so sal die koning van Assirië die krygsgevangenes uit Egipte en die ballinge uit Kus, oud en jonk, sonder klere en sonder skoene, kaal, in ballingskap wegvoer. Dit sal vir Egipte 'n skande wees.

Hulle wat op Kus vertrou het en oor Egipte grootgepraat het, sal teleurgestel staan en bedroë daarvan afkom.

Daardie dag sal die inwoners van die kuslande sê: “Kyk wat het gebeur met die mense op wie ons vertrou het, na wie toe ons gehardloop het om ons teen die koning van Assirië te help en ons uit sy mag te red. Hoe sal ons nou vrykom?”
