Bo moja dusza już syta jest nieszczęść, A moje życie w pobliżu Szeolu.

Zaliczono mnie do schodzących do grobu, Stałem się jak bohater pozbawiony sił.

Wśród umarłych mnie zostawiono, Tak jak przebitych [mieczem], leżących w grobie, O których już nie pamiętasz, Bo oni już odcięci od Twej ręki.

Umieściłeś mnie w przepastnym dole, W ciemnościach, w głębinach,

Ciąży na mnie Twój gniew I wszystkie Twe bałwany przygniotły mnie..

Oddaliłeś ode mnie mych znajomych, Uczyniłeś mnie dla nich ohydą; Jestem zamknięty – i nie wyjdę.

Moje oko gaśnie od strapienia. Wzywam Cię, JHWH, cały dzień, Wyciągam do Ciebie me dłonie.

Czy dla umarłych czynisz cuda? Czy cienie wstaną, by Ciebie chwalić?.

Czy w grobie opowiada się o Twej łasce I o Twej wierności w podziemiach?

Czy w mroku da się poznać Twój cud I Twą sprawiedliwość w kraju zapomnienia?

Lecz ja do Ciebie wołam, JHWH, I o poranku wita Cię moja modlitwa:

JHWH, dlaczego odtrącasz moją duszę, Ukrywasz przede mną swoją twarz?

Ja jestem biedny i bliski śmierci od młodości, Znoszę Twe przerażenie, jestem bezsilny.

Przewalił się nade mną żar Twoich gniewów, Twoje groźby mnie niszczą.

Otaczają mnie jak wody cały dzień, Zalewają mnie wszystkie naraz.

Sprawiłeś, że odsunął się ode mnie przyjaciel i towarzysz, Moi znajomi – to mroki.
