Popoare, ascultați acest lucru! Locuitori ai lumii, fiți atenți;

atât cei care aveți o mică energie, cât și cei are dețineți o forță superioară; atât bogați, cât și săraci – împreună!
3
Gura mea va vorbi cu înțelepciune; și gândurile inimii mele vor arăta inteligență.
4
Mă inspir din proverbe. Îmi încep ghicitoarea în timp ce cântă lira.
5
De ce să mă tem în zilele rele, când mă înconjoară răutatea înșelătorilor mei,
6
a celor care se bazează pe averile lor și se laudă cu mulțimea bogățiilor lor?
7
Nimeni nu poate reface viața semenului lui, nici nu îi poate da lui Dumnezeu prețul răscumpărării lui.
8
Acel preț pentru răscumpărarea vieții lui este atât de mare, încât nu i-l va putea plăti niciodată.
9
Deci acela nu va trăi niciodată etern, astfel încât să nu mai ajungă vreodată în groapă.
10
Este evident că și înțelepții mor. Atât omul fără discernământ, cât și cel violent, mor împreună. Ei se despart atunci de averile lor, lăsându-le altora.
11
Totuși, (atât timp cât trăiesc) își imaginează că vor fi proprietarii caselor lor pentru eternitate și că locuințele lor vor dura din generație în generație. Crezând că așa se va întâmpla, și-au numit proprietățile cu numele lor.

Dar omul bogat nu există la infinit (pe pământ); ci se aseamănă cu vitele care urmează să fie tăiate.
13
Așa se întâmplă cu cei care se încred în ei și cu aceia care îi urmează, aprobându-le vorbele.
14
Ajung în locuința morților ca niște oi; și (cât timp vor trăi,) vor fi urmăriți de moarte. Oamenii corecți vor fi stăpânii lor. Fața lor se va veșteji în locuința morților. Vor sta departe de locuința lor (de pe pământ).
15
Dar Dumnezeu va reabilita sufletul meu, scoțându-l din locuința morților; pentru că El mă va proteja.
16
Nu te îngrijora când se îmbogățește cineva și când i se înmulțește bogăția casei;
17
pentru că nu ia nimic cu el atunci când moare. Bogăția lui nu coboară împreună cu el în mormânt.
18
Chiar dacă sufletul lui a fost fericit atât timp cât a trăit (pe pământ), chiar dacă s-a lăudat cu bucuriile pe care și le-a permis,
19
tot va merge acolo unde sunt strămoșii lui, fără să mai vadă vreodată lumina.
20
Omul bogat și fără abilitatea înțelegerii semnificației lucrurilor, seamănă cu vitele pregătite pentru tăiere.
